Shanghai/Yangshuo.Porsche is defined by dreams, and made by sport. Through continuous research, innovation and on-the-track trials, Porsche has brought the ultimate sporty driving experience to the everyday road and created countless dream cars in the process. In March, Porsche created a "SPORTMADE" pageant amidst the beautiful peaks of Yangshuo, Guangxi, fully unleashing the brand’s sporting nature with the new 911 Dakar officially making its China premiere. The 718 Style Edition and the 911 Carrera T were also unveiled, showcasing the extroverted exclusivity, as well as the epitome of purism and exhilarating driving pleasure.
As the 21st century’s first series 911 with superior off-road capabilities, the 911 Dakar further illustrates the all-but-limitless possibilities of the Porsche 911. Higher ground clearance with a specially retuned chassis system makes this two-door sports car as agile off-road as it is on the highway and the racetrack. The new body type sends out a unique off-road character, highlighting its exclusivity. The 911 Dakar makes Ferry Porsche’s concept more true than ever: “The 911 is the only car that takes you from an African Safari to Le Mans, then to the theatre and then onto the streets of New York.”
It is a 911, yet much tougher
A powerful performance indicator of the Porsche 911 Dakar is its significantly raised ground clearance, which is 50 millimetres higher than that of a 911 Carrera with sports suspension. The standard lift system can raise the front and rear ends an additional 30 millimetres. Its ground clearance and ramp angle rival those of conventional SUVs. The ‘high level’ setting is available for ambitious off-road adventures at speeds of up to 170 km/h. Above that speed, the car automatically lowers back down to its normal level.
Maximum off-road performance is also ensured by two new driving modes. Rallye mode fea-tures rear-focused all-wheel drive, perfect for loose and uneven surfaces. In Off road mode the high clearance is activated automatically. This mode is designed for maximum traction on diffi-cult terrain and on sand. Both of the new driving modes also feature the new Rallye Launch Control, which enables impressive acceleration on loose surfaces and allows wheel slippage of around 20 per cent.
Specially developed Pirelli Scorpion All Terrain Plus tyres (sized 245/45 ZR 19 at the front and 295/40 ZR 20 at the rear) are offered as standard. The chunky tread pattern is nine millimetres deep and the reinforced sidewalls and the treads consist of two carcass plies, and they are highly cut-resistant. The all-terrain tyre is not only the perfect partner for the 911 Dakar on challenging terrain, but also offers sports car dynamics on the road. In addition, Pirelli P Zero summer and winter tyres are available as an option, also with two carcass plies.
A rallying warrior who longs for the wilderness, with a passion for the track
The suspension setup in the 911 Dakar follows the same basic philosophy as all Porsche 911 models: a wide range spanning driving comfort and sportiness, thus fulfilling the needs of both on- and off-road driving. The standard equipment includes an eight-speed PDK and Porsche all-wheel drive, rear-axle steering, the engine mounts from the 911 GT3, and PDCC anti-roll stabilisation. The interplay of all the components results in the 911 Dakar being just as dynamic on sand and loose surfaces as it is on the Nürburgring Nordschleife.
The three-litre biturbo six-cylinder engine with 480 PS (353 kW) and a maximum torque of 570 Newton metres delivers superior performance with a compelling boxer sound. It car from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.4 seconds and reaches a top speed of 240 km/h with the all-terrain tyres.
The 911 Dakar weighs at just 1,605 kg. A range of lightweighting measures include: newly developed fixed rear spoiler made of CFRP; the CFRP front luggage compartment lid with striking air outlets taken from the 911 GT3; lightweight glass and a lightweight battery. Meanwhile, the Adaptive Sports seats Plus (electrical 18-ways) come as standard, with the omission of the rear seats. Thus, the 911 Dakar ensures an agile stance in any driving scenar-io.
An unmistakable sight on the road, with exclusive off-road style
Shade Green is exclusively available as a standard metallic exterior finish for the 911 Dakar, further accentuating its off-road atmosphere. With the interior corresponding to the standard Race-Tex surfaces with decorative stitching in Shade Green. In addition, there are many standard off-road details such as the red aluminium towing lugs at the front and back, the widened wheel wells and sills, as well as the stainless steel protective elements on the front, rear and side sills. The side air intakes on the re-designed front end are also protected against flying rocks by stainless steel grilles.
For the first time ever, a roof basket is available for a 911. With a capacity of 42 kilograms, the roof basket can easily accommodate rallying equipment such as travel bag, folding shovels and recovery boards, providing plenty of luggage space for the adventure.
At the heart of the optional Rallye Design Package from Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur is a two-tone paint finish in White/Gentian Blue Metallic. This is the first time that Porsche has im-plemented the combination of bicolour paint and decorative foiling in series production. On the side of the vehicle, the customer can choose an individual race number between 0 and 999. In addition to the rally stripes in red and gold, the 911 Dakar with Rallye Design Package – whose appearance is based on the winning vehicle of the 1984 Paris-Dakar Rally – also bears the "Roughroads" lettering on the doors. The white-painted rims and the red taillight strip, in contrast to the standard vehicle, round off the distinctive appearance. Further highlights can be found in the interior: Extended Race-Tex and leather surrounds as well as seat belts and accents in Sharkblue.
Porsche Design Chronograph
911 Dakar customers can exclusively order the Porsche Design Chronograph 1 ‒ 911 Dakar or the Chronograph 1 ‒ 911 Dakar Rallye Design Edition to match the vehicle. For the first time, the housing is made of particularly scratch-resistant and light titanium carbide.
