Shanghai. The Fifth China International Import Expo (CIIE) opened in Shanghai on 5 November. Under the theme of "Smart Sustainable for New Era", with intelligence, electrification and sustainability as highlights, Volkswagen Group China joined hands with several of its integrated brands to attend this year's Expo. Among them, Porsche brought its Mission R concept study to the booth for its Asia premiere, presenting exciting new achievements aligned with the brand's electrification process and new trends on the road to sustainability.
"This is the fifth consecutive year that Porsche has participated in the CIIE. The success of hosting of CIIE provides a broad platform for exhibitors from all over the world to showcase resources, exchange and cooperate, while demonstrating China's strong determination to promote trade liberalisation in order to expand its openness to the world," said Michael Kirsch, President and CEO of Porsche China. "We are honoured to once again have the opportunity to participate in this prestigious trade event and to be able to present Porsche's cutting-edge technology, products, services and brand value to Chinese consumers. The Chinese market is becoming increasingly important, and Porsche will continue to actively support and respond to the national policies while delivering on our long-term commitment to the Chinese market."
Leveraging the far-reaching platform of the CIIE, this year Porsche continued its communication and discussion on the topic of electrification and sustainability. With the theme of "Fast Forward Future", Porsche presented two of its latest all-electric models, the Mission R concept study, and the first all-electric crossover utility vehicle Taycan Cross Turismo, to showcase the brand's vision of a motorsport future as wells as its diversity of electric mobility lifestyle.
Mission R: Beyond imagination, a forward-looking vision of motorsport
The most eye-catching model at the Porsche booth was no doubt the futuristic and technologically advanced Mission R concept study, which made its first public appearance in Asia on the stage at CIIE.
Adhering to the brand concept of "From the racetrack to the road", Porsche has long utilised motorsport as a testing ground to hone its technologies and rich experience. The Mission R concept study, unveiled at the IAA MOBILITY last year, is an all-electric race car that combines state-of-the-art technologies, progressive design and motorsport passion with the iconic DNA of the sports car thoroughbreds from Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen. The Mission R embodies everything that makes Porsche strong: performance, design and sustainability. This comes from the lap performance comparable to that of the latest Porsche 911 GT3 Cup, reflected in a variety of driver-centric functional design breakthroughs, and more-so to the use of a large number of sustainable ecological materials and environmental contributions. With its cutting-edge technologies, the Mission R brings new inspiration to the future of electric customer racing, and new heights of imagination for the future of motorsport incorporating a pure Porsche handling experience and surging passion.
Taycan Cross Turismo: Breaking the boundaries, where technology meets wildness
The highly anticipated new member of the Taycan family, the Taycan Cross Turismo, presents Porsche’s electric mobility lifestyle with emboldened attitude and stance. This most recent model comes with enhanced off-road performance thanks to its high-tech chassis, offering an even more spacious driving experience for the Taycan with a wider range of driving scenarios. More ample interior space, a more advanced high-tech chassis, and a more reliable e-range all give Porsche's sports genes and adventurous spirit a broader electrification based vision.
With these fresh new possibilities, the driving pleasure derived from the Taycan will evolve even further. Whether driving on busy city roads, surging highways, or rugged country trails, the Taycan Cross Turismo enables customers to enjoy their journey through different landscapes whilst gaining a distinctive driving pleasure across varied lifestyles. So far, four derivatives of the new Taycan Cross Turismo have been launched in China. The total number of Taycan family models available in China have reached nine, covering both crossover utility vehicle and sporty sedan body-types.
A focus on sustainability while empowering the dual carbon goals
Sustainability forms an important part of Porsche Strategy. Together with China, Porsche is actively promoting carbon reduction initiatives in order to achieve a dual carbon goal. It is Porsche’s purposeful target to working towards a net carbon neutral value chain in 2030. This includes a net carbon neutral use phase for future BEV models. Porsche is advancing decarbonisation across the product development, supply chain, production process and use phases, following with a four-steps approach of avoiding, reducing, converting and compensating carbon emissions. From a product development perspective, the commitment to electrification will help Porsche to radically reduce the carbon footprint of its products. In terms of the supply chain, Porsche also stipulates the use of renewable energy by our direct suppliers. In addition, all of the major Porsche sites like Zuffenhausen, Weissach and Leipzig are already working on a net carbon-neutral basis. The emissions from the vehicle use phase will be converted through the expansion of renewable energy. The Porsche Impact carbon compensating project is also actively helping the company and Porsche owners to offset CO2 emissions generated by vehicles already on the road.
In the face of structural changes in the global auto industry, sustainable development is imperative. Porsche is accelerating its sprint in the fast lane towards clear sustainability goals. "In the context of electrification transformation, we are confident that the electric-driven Porsche will once again conquer the market with our unique driving passion," Kirsch said. "At the same time, Porsche will further deepen sustainable development and support China in its efforts to actively and steadily promote carbon neutrality to build a more sustainable future together wheel to wheel, hand in hand.”
